Graham Roberts, Chief Executive Officer

Graham Roberts was Finance Director at The British Land Company PLC from 2002 to 2011, and before that was Senior Partner for Real Estate at Arthur Andersen, where he also headed up the public sector assurance practice, which included clients such as NHS Estates and a number of NHS trusts.

His early career was at Binder Hamlyn. He is currently non-executive director and Chairman of the Audit Committee at Balfour Beatty plc.

Jonathan Murphy, Finance Director

Jonathan Murphy is Finance Director of Assura.  Jonathan was previously Finance Director of the fund management business of Brooks Macdonald Group plc, having joined through the acquisition of Braemar Group plc in 2010, where he was Finance Director for 4 years.  Jonathan has extensive experience in the creation and management of property funds and was previously Managing Director for the property management business of Brooks Macdonald.

His earlier career included commercial and strategic roles at Spirit Group and Vodafone. Jonathan qualified as a Chartered Accountant with PricewaterhouseCoopers, holding management roles in both the UK and Asia, and holds an MBA from IESE, the leading European Business School in Barcelona.

Andrew Darke, Managing Director - Property

Andrew graduated from Liverpool and commenced his surveying career at the District Valuers Office, where he completed his RICS qualifications. From there he went to Royal Sun Alliance with responsibility for part of their Northern investment portfolio. He then spent 7 years working as investment and development director for Rowlinson Securities Plc, developing across all sectors and throughout the UK to include industrial and office schemes. He then spent 7 years with Barlows Plc performing an identical role including retail in and out of town.

Since leaving Barlows he was involved with Assura under its Medical Property Investment Fund guise and was responsible for securing its seed portfolio prior to successful launch onto the Stock Market in November 2003. Since then he has led the Property team through its growth covering the development, portfolio and investment managers.

Paul Carroll, Group Financial Controller

Paul qualified as a Chartered Accountant before joining Alsop Wilkinson corporate solicitors in Liverpool where he spent 4 years, during which the firm merged with Dibb Lupton Broomhead to form DLA, he was part of the team responsible for merging the two firms.

Paul spent 9 years at Johnson Service Group Plc as Corporate Accountant, which included 2 years implementing SAP as head of the SAP FICO team. Paul joined Assura in 2007 and has been instrumental in the selecting and implementing of a new financial and property management system.

Carolyn Jones, Head of Investor Relations & Communications

Carolyn Jones joined the Group in 2007 and was appointed Head of Investor Relations & Communications in 2013. Carolyn qualified as a chartered accountant with Bissell & Brown Limited in 2005 before joining KPMG as an assistant manager until 2007.

Carolyn’s previous roles within Assura were as divisional finance manager, group reporting accountant and Company Secretary.

Spencer Kenyon, Head of Portfolio Management

Spencer Kenyon is Head of Portfolio Management for Assura. Spencer is a Chartered Surveyor and has worked in property management both in Public and Private sector throughout his career. He previously  worked for Barlows PLC and for 9 years headed their Asset Management Department.


His earlier career included commercial roles at St Quintin where he was Associate Director at St Quintin, a commercial property firm and was Head of their Property Management department in Manchester for 5 years. Since 2003 he has specialised in the healthcare sector, dealing with the management and development of primary care property.

Orla Ball, Head of Legal

Orla Ball qualified as a solicitor with Eversheds in Manchester where she worked in their Corporate department.   

She has spent the last six years as In-House Counsel for Brooks Macdonald where she looked after the legal matters for their property management and property funds business.
